HELP KEEP FRANCE QUARRY GREEN!
Imagine a wild, green haven in Easton – open to all.
The Future Portland Community Benefit Society (CBS) has been set up to support our community to have a stronger voice and more influence over the things that happen to Portland.
We are currently working to secure two acres of France Quarry for the community. To make this vision a reality, we need to raise £60,000 and are seeking your pledge of support.
The reason we’re doing this is to protect the area from potential development. Our concerns are based on the recent proposal that the site be designated for housing under Portland’s Neighbourhood Plan. Though the plan met with significant community resistance and was ultimately rejected by Portland Town Council, this does not guarantee the proposal won’t resurface. If it does, and the development were to lead to the loss of France Quarry, this natural oasis could never be replaced.
BUT there is hope on the horizon. We have a unique window of opportunity to purchase two acres of this land, protecting it for residents, visitors and the huge number of animal and plant species that call it home. This is where your pledges come in because every pledge your make strengthens our case for community ownership, so that we can:
- Save a cherished green space for health and wellbeing
- Protect a vital habitat for wildlife
- Keep this land in community hands for public benefit, not private sale! Let’s protect this peaceful place where people and nature thrive together.
WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR MONEY AT THIS STAGE, just an indication of what you might be willing to pledge to save a part of this cherished local space.
