The projects that Future Portland are currently working on have been historically highlighted as important by the island’s community, either through past consultations or at founding partner and/or Future Portland events.
Going forward, as a Community Benefit Society (CBS), Future Portland projects will be decided upon by its members. They will have input on what projects are adopted and how they are run. Find out more about becoming a member, how membership works and the benefits of membership here.
Project ideas can be put forward to Future Portland in the form of a proposal. This can be done by the Future Portland team and/or members, other organisations or the community. Based on the information in these proposals (and any additional, relevant details), members get to vote on which projects are taken forward and developed for the benefit of the community.
The nature of any selected projects will influence the type of community offers that are created. For example, if the project requires land or a building to be purchased, there might be an opt-in share/donation element. Alternatively, the project may need volunteers. Whatever the requirement, this will be outlined in the community offer. It will be this offer that residents, visitors and organisations alike will be asked to support.
You can find out about our current key project, France Quarry, and how to get involved here. For information, this is a historical project, identified by the community as a much-loved and essential green space.
