Imagine a wild, green haven in Portland – open to all.

Once a busy working site, France Quarry has now been reclaimed by nature and transformed into a beautiful green oasis at the heart of Easton, Portland. It is home to thousands of species of plants and animals, some incredibly rare, and is cherished by residents and visitors alike for its tranquillity, birdsong, and cool woodland canopy. For many local children, it is the only wooded area where they can explore, play, and connect with nature.

But this much‑loved place is under threat of development. So far, community efforts have helped to stop these plans. Yet with growing pressure for new housing, there is no guarantee that future proposals will be turned down. If they are approved and the Quarry is lost, this unique, living landscape – and everything it means to our community – could never be replaced.

Amazingly, we have a unique opportunity to purchase two acres of the site, protecting it for residents, visitors and the diverse range of animals and plants that call it home. To make this vision a reality, Future Portland is working hard to raise £60,000 – the sum needed to secure the land, including all legal fees. We are seeking your support to help us reach this target.

The plan is to supplement your donations and pledges with grants and additional funding streams. Within this scenario, your pledges will not only demonstrate the community’s commitment, making our bid more attractive to potential funders, they will also serve as vital match funding, which is often required.
